For about 5 years now, molasses has been a staple in my pantry just to make brown sugar. This is very easy to make. With all the baking I do, I use a lot of it.
Ingredients:
4 cups sugar
1/4 cup molasses
To make this, just thoroughly mash the sugar into the molasses. Store in an airtight container. Use in place of all recipes asking for brown sugar.
Loving your ideas! I have some of your Crescent cinnamon rolls in the oven as we speak and some tortilla dough resting in the bread maker. I also intend to make some "nesquik" when my current supply runs out :)
ReplyDeleteI am in the UK, to make the brown sugar do you use ordinary granulated sugar mixed with molasses or the finer caster sugar? Also, can I substitute black treacle for molasses as I have yet to find Molasses in my supermarket.
Thanks for giving me some great ideas to try xx
I have only tried to make the brown sugar w/ just sugar & molasses. I don't know what black treacle is, either. As far as the recipe, I would try making a small batch of it (using what you have on hand) and see what you think of it, before making the investment. I have also seen a recipe using brown sugar sprinkled with the cinnamon sugar & butter for the cinnamon rolls. It is yummy! Hope you are having a great day in UK! :)
